J.S. Bach on the dance floor

(I apologize beforehand for creating a flash applet, I know we’re all cross-platform open source enthusiasts and I’m aware that some will have to jump through hoops in order to view this. It’s has been my first flash app and will be my last, I promise…)

This is something I’ve been wanting to make for some time now. It’s based on a prelude in C minor for lute by J.S. Bach, but I’m used to playing it in Dm so that’s what you’ll hear. Every measure of the piece is represented by a floor tile on a dance floor that lights up in a certain colour, by clicking and dragging over the tiles you can re-arrange the music. You can record your compositions and save them for later enjoyment.

I used LuxRender for rendering and of course the modelling took place in Blender

The applet is located here: http://thomaskrijnen.com/jsbotdf/

The original by the master himself: http://thomaskrijnen.com/jsbotdf/#1000000000000
An awful re-interpretation: http://thomaskrijnen.com/jsbotdf/#1000000000001 by myself, but I’m sure you can all do much better!

And an image for the flashless: (to give a general idea, but it is nowhere near the actual experience)

Enjoy

Very cool effects, bit resource intensive for the pc. I like it, but I couldn’t make pretty music with it.

Great little program, I love it!

Kinda cool. Love the lightening effect.

That’s awesome!

Thanks guys!

Yeah, I can see now why people use flash blockers when browsing the web with them flash ads. Generally flash does not prove to be resource friendly.

So, no one created a musical invention he wants to share with the world? :stuck_out_tongue:

This might be my new favorite thing.

starts off a little weak, but picks up towards the end.

Excellent Job!

Any chance of an HTML5 version for the flashless?

IDEA: What is this were made into a snake game? Same as regular snakes, but you create your own background music!

Thanks! And nice one!
I’ve made a new one too, a little up tempo and with a strong beat

Actually, I started creating this as a HTML5 app, but had to turn to flash. I couldn’t get the sounds right in HTML5 and the visuals, using canvas and javascript, were too slow. Sorry.

I quite like that idea! Especially if you make it a multiplayer game (nibbles anyone?). With two players you then get a duet and might even pick different instruments
