Jacobethan Style Fountain WIP

Thanks man!

Do you mean the top spire?
Its not very hard to be honest :stuck_out_tongue:
All you have to do is get the basic profile of the shape you want by extruding and scaling the edges to where you want them to be and then you add extra suporrting loops where you want the edge to be hard(er).

The closer the supporting loop(s)/edge(s) is/are to he original edge, the sharper it will become when subdivided.

Here is a .blend for you to check out if you want  (The edges marked in red are the supporting edges that make the edges closest to them sharper)ā€¦also you will see the final result with and without the supporting edgesā€¦it makes quite a difference!

and finally here is a pic of the spires wires so you can see how i did it.

If you have any more questions you know where i am!

Hey guys,

I think this will prob. be the last update before i start sculpting (unless a show stopper crops its ugly head :P)

I have added the large centre bowl, along with some outlets that connect to the spouts and have gone through all the bricks and trim sections and tried to add a little irregularity by spacing them out a little more, rotating them and generally moving them around a bit so that they are not just perfectly uniform any moreā€¦hopefully this will make the normal and AO maps read much better

I think its already had quite a good effect so far ^^

Any comments and Critique are most welcome!

Looks great so far. It appears youā€™re using very efficient modeling methods too.
Planning on a rendered scene, or just a shot of the textured model?

Thanks for the compliment Asano!

Its going to be game asset, which will be in all likelihood taken into UDK for the final scene, though i may try some other engines as well
Once it is all sculpted i will be doing some nice renders in Blender though ^^

How many polyā€™s is it at the moment? It looks a little heavy for a game, but UDK would probably handle it ok. What kind of a game is it for?
I look forward to the renders.

Its currently about 8.2m faces (according to Blender) so its far to heavy for anything other than rendering.
Im not sure what the final LP with weigh in at yet, but it will prob. be around 15-20kā€¦ Im just going to see low i can push it without sacrificing a good silhouette.
Its not for any game in particularā€¦im just doing it for fun

Hey guys,
Update time!

Here is what i have been doing in my cave since my last post.

There is still much to do but i think the sculpting is off to a good start.

Any comments and crits would be great

Hey all,

Everything on the pics above are a little out of scale with each other, so i thought i would post some larger shots of the fountain and pillar bits.

Thanks for looking

Beautiful modeling, really nice job.

nice model, but just to let you know youā€™ve mixed up your periods. Its either Elizabethen or Jacobian, not jacobethen.

Thanks for the comments

Jacobethan is term that is used to describe a mix of styles from the English Renaissance, Elizabethan and Jacobean periods which has been used since the 1930s

Hope that clears things up

I stand corrected.

Hey guys,
Still some clean up required on these but man i love the Formbrushā€¦makes this kind of stuff must faster

Hey guys,
Just a quick update.

I have tried to make the whole thing pop a little more, though in some parts i think the overall effect may be a tad too strongā€¦i will take look with fresh eyes tomorrow.

Crit on this would be awesome:)

looking very nice!

the attention to detail is amazing inside and out, is this for any larger project?

Thanks for the kind words pop850!

This is a standalone asset, though i may create a small surrounding environment for it to go with at a later date

Thanks again!

Hey guys,
Just a small update for the moment

I have applied the same treatment to the main front plaque as i did to the corner plaque so it reads a little better.

I did a quick normal bake onto some simple geometry just to make sure i was getting the results i wanted and so far i think im on the right track.
Each HP mesh was decimated in ZBrush to 150k and then baked in xNormal onto a massive total of 16 tris. ^^

Here is the result in Marmoset

I have to admitā€¦im pretty stoked with the result

C+C would be great

Hey guys,
Just another small update on a couple of bits i have been working on today.
Both still need some refining in places, but i think they are getting there!

Thanks for looking

Hey guys,
I bring updates!

I started the top arch today, which is a real nice part to sculpt as there is lots of space for the relief which enabled me to experiment a little more with a few different brushes that i havenā€™t really used previously.

Also, after looking at the triangle piece with fresh eyes, i decided to tone down the large dents as i realised it made the edges look a little wobbly.

Any comments and critique would be fantastic!
Thanks for looking

(I promise there will be some more Blender specific updates soon :P)

Hey all,

I have not been able to do as much as i would have liked over the past few days, but i did get a little free time this evening to pump this little beauty out

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v299/metalliandy/th_Sculpt_wip8a.jpg

Im still planning to release some speed sculpts of all these when i get time, but its going to take a while to sort through them all as there is around 12.5 hrs/20GB of video sitting on my drive
Hopefully i should have something up by the weekend or early next week sometime.
