Jagged reflections?

Hi-

I’m trying to render a camera moving across a landscape reflecting a video playing on a flat plane above. I’ve tried setting the shading of the surface to ‘smooth’ but am still getting strange/jagged shadows and reflections, see attached image.

Any tips on how to proceed?

Thanks!

Edit: OK- I disabled Indirect lighting and that helped some but there are still some weird spots - no idea how to get rid of these, anyone have any ideas?

Looks like it could be your scene is too big, select the objects, perhaps you could scale the whole thing down to about the size of the floor grid, and press cntrl+A > Scale.

Hmmm, thanks for the tip - no luck though.

I scaled it down to fit within the bounds of the initial grid and it looks more or less the same?

maybe try bumping the ray mirror depth up a notch? or maybe using a different type of filtering? looks kind of cool though.

Tried bumping up the depth but did no good. It seems to have been something to do with a bump mapped texture I had going… I disabled that and it fixed everything. Don’t like the surface as much though. Will have to dig some more to see if there is anyway to resolve the issue.

Second screenshot is it fixed (bump map texture off), first screen shot is orignal texture without reflection turned on, last is original texture w/ reflection on (w/ higher depth).

in the properties of the bump map texture, scroll all the way down to where is say “bump mapping” : “method” and choose “best quality” . I’m not sure if that will help, though you can try it.

The combination of “Best Quality” and “ViewSpace” seems to get me almost where I want - strange/jagged reflections almost completely removed, the other two screen shots are “TextureSpace”/“ObjectSpace”.

Thank you all for your help!
