Jarrod Hasenjäger's Snow Material in Blender

Snow material testing

I tried recreating Jarrod Hasenjäger’s Snow Material that he made in Alderon.

Keep in mind, I really don’t have much experience in rendering or material making. I kinda get the gist of what most of the nodes do, but its mostly just me playing around.

My computer is also pretty slow, so sorry for the poor quality

Two things i wanted to go for:

  1. Round, bumpy base displacement.

    • I had trouble getting the basic displacement to have broader bumps. If I fooled around with it too much it would really distort the mesh
  2. Sparkles

    • the noise sparkles looked ok on the torus, but i couldn’t spot them on the sphere. The sparkles were pretty frustrating. In Jarrod’s post he said he used a noise displacement with limited range as a mask, but I dont really know how to do that in blender haha.

anyway thanks for reading, appreciate any thoughts : )

edit:

Node overview in better quality

And if you want to check out the file:

It looks good. You have to put a bigger image of the node setup however, so as it is now is difficult to discern its composition.

would be nice to upload a file
nodes set up is hard to read

but beginning to look nice

is this for cycles and EEVEE ?

I edited the post with a better image and a file as well!

This is made in cycles in 2.8

Thank you, I updated the post with a better image + a file!
