Hey guys,
just a wip I’m working on. I’m also recording a video of the whole process that I’ll later upload as a timelapse. Hope you’ll enjoy the progress! Just about an hour of work so far. So don’t expect much :o

lol, yeah. well I dont hate ya, but darn, just an hour? Very nice start and cant wait to see the time lapse video, maybe I’ll re-do it on my own, accelerate it 10 times, and show it as a slow motion time…spread (the opposite of a timelapse) :spin: cuz it would take me 30+ hours to come close to anything like this!

Just viewed your timelapse and I just think it is amazing. Judging from the video it seems that you use subdivision modelling? Do you do this for all parts?
I’d also like to know if you are always using references or are you doing this from the top of your head?
Do you always do the details as you go along or do you often add details later on?
Sorry for all the questions but I’m desperatly trying to improve my modelling skills and when I see something like this I just feel plain stupid :yes:.
BTW could you provide a HD version next time so that we can see the panels better?

musk: yeah, almost all the part, except some engine details, are using the subsurf modifier. For smooth surface, it’s the best option! As far as reference goes, I had a sketch (from another artist which I can’t find anymore…don’t have his name) on a 2nd monitor. Very simple 45 degrees perspective sketch. I just used it as a general guideline, the final model is quite far from the sketch. I usually try to do most of the detailling at the end, but sometimes I get carried on some part and work on it more than on other part of the model :o…there is no guideline for this really…except that it is prefered to work on a very basic mesh first, and then add details later. Because it’s easier to add detail, than remove them. On vimeo, at the bottom right of the page, there a “link” to download the original file. It’s 1024x768…but it’s heavy at 450mb…really bad compression ratio, but the quality is way better than what you see on vimeo. And my video was sped up about 9-10time depending on the parts (was recorded in 2 session). The original time was about 2h45. And as for your timelapse video, only thing I’d personally do different, is to have the leaves as different object. That would give you more control on the details on the leaves, and make it easier to texture afteron.
