JFlow Alpha - GPU accelerated Fire and Smoke Simulator

From my limited testing it seems like the addon works in blender versions from 3.0 to 5.0 without issues. But it’s still under heavy development so I’m not 100% sure but I want it to work in this range in the final product

This time I’ve mainly improved sourcing, vorticity and advection method. There are a lot of other small changes but I don’t really remember all of them.

Hey man! This is sick! Are you planning on releasing it?

Yes. I though it’ll be ready early this year but I had a lot of personal things holding the development. But as soon as it’s ready for a first release it will be published. Just I want to make it good enough

This time I’ve improved almost the whole solver and the addon, making the simulations A LOT better. It’s now slowly getting to the point where I like the results. A quick demo scene shows the new system. There are still some things I want to improve before release but it’s now pretty solid in terms of the quality (or at least it’s getting there)

Holy smokes, looks real! Cool

Wow, the quality has improved a lot since I last saw it! What is the domain size on that sim, and any other specs that you can divulge?

Very quick explosion test. Some new fixes and improvements from yesterday landed so I needed to test them. The scene may not be the best but it was like very very quick test

emm. around 500^3 raw domain simulation and 2x upscaling so the final domain was like 1000^3. The other specs I don’t remember as it was more a test and not a final comparison. Just needed to quickly test if the new improvements are actually worth anything

Is the upscale before storing or on the fly, when reading?

The upscale is done during simulation for now before storing. The current blender state I think do not allow for doing it when reading

Quick test of a higher resolution simulation, where the final smoke has over 1700 grid resolution. The solver handles it well, though the same cannot be said with blender viewport which hangs a lot when trying to do anything with such large volume

Quick test of a animated colliders and improved sourcing. The render is of a low quality but I didn’t wanna spend too much time on it.

Are these recent tests now being fully simulated within Blender using your addon? Does it cache as an external vdb? I can’t remember what the status is of JFlow being an external standalone app vs Blender plugin.

Those tests were done all in blender using the addon. It caches vdbs into selected folder so you can import them. I can though add automatic import if needed. But you have realtime rendering inside blender, and everything is done almost natively.

A small test of improvements in the JustFlow smoke solver, which I hope to set on a new milestone to maybe publish the first version this year.

And a project that I’ve been working commercially past 2 years that is probably getting published next month that is supporting the JustFlow development:

Are you talking about an animated crocodile?

Or a fluid simulator? :sunglasses:

A fluid/cloth/grains/soft/rigidbodies/etc. multi solver for Blender.

Crodile was just a very short and fast test of the solver.
Thanks for this question as I didn’t specify it enough looking retrospectively and that’s important.

oh…I was joking about the crocodile… it was quite clear (at least for me) what you’re showing and what you showed seems really interesting.

The “soft” solver solutions on Blender are growing in number and quality…I’m not a user of those scenarios but I follow them with interestes…who knows what the future will give me…
