Im making up a small cast of toon characters for general animation and shorts. Basicly, a signature set. Ive finished the first one, a dino-like fella named Jim.
He took about a day and a half. Obviously lower-res, though he does have a couple subsrufs on him. Those feet are actually hooves, with naught but string connecting to the body. Obviously toon physics there.
The charcater is completely rigged(if a simple rig), blend shapes set up and everything. Shaders are simple, a couple maps for bumps on skin, as well as the light patches.
Any crits wanted, votes as well(if its not too much trouble). Rendered with Blender Internal, Sky Colored AO(both), and a sun light+hemi light setup. Took about 3 minutes(My comp is a bit slow) to render.
@BgDM and Reyante: Yeah, Just noticed those nasty artiacts…what gives? It was fine before I pulled it into photoshop…Ill fix that, repost the pic…
Thanks though, Glad you like him!
EDIT: Tried blurring up those red edges. I think it had somethign to do with the AO calculations or something…
BTW it’s JPG compression artifacts, just save use higher quality when saving to .jpg in photoshop (from original file, of course, too late for that one).
@nifrek: Thanks man. And yeah, it must be the original file, I saved photoshop at 12(highest) quality.
Dang. @trak wrecka: Yup, rigged, its got blend shapes for speech and expressions(or a big cute smile ) Thanks for the vote man! And Ill let you know…
Hey Drew- Nice character. I’m on dial up and the picture had only loaded a little bit of the top part (with the right eye and nostril). It looked like the nostril was another eye
Nice job- it’s a great simple toon character. No crits
Ha, Thanks Wu-Man respectful bow
I dont have any huge amount of talent as far as high-res, or high detail design, so you gotta do more with less.
Its all in the colors.
Eh yeah, about those…not too crazy about the Red on yellow. It’s quite assaulting on the eyes if you ask me. I’ve heard thats why McDonalds decorates its interior with a red/yellow motif, to subconsciously make customers feel uncomfortable and get out faster
The model’s okay, will be interested to see how you animate those string legs.
Probably my favorite work of yours was the one titled “Don’t let them get to you” or something similar.
@jazzdalek: Thanks man! @aristotle: Ha, they are purposefully extremely happy and bright colors, sorry for asaulting your grey-scale world Im glad you liked 'Dont let em get to you" The box one, right? @yoyofargo: … @Blackboe: Ha, thanks me too…
Thanks everybody for the crits, opinions and praise.
