John Wayne

Howdy yall,
One of my favorite actors is John Wayne. So after being inspired by all the fantastic work people do here on Blender
Artists, I have decided to try my hand at a more advanced sclupt than i normally do. Hopefully I will finish one this time. Any comments or suggestions are welcome, good or bad.
I will be using blender 2.69.
To start off with, here is my basic bust.
Hope yall enjoy.

A little work on the base and the basic features begin to take shape.

Hi glassdog! Might want to work on the neck a bit too.

Thanks for the input Robert. I plan on adding a bandanna around his neck, hence the bulge in the neck.

Good idea.

A little more work. Not looking like much yet, but I have high hopes.
I dont have a tablet, so Im just using a mouse.

One of the main characteristics of John Wayne was his hat. So here goes with his hat. Im making his hat a separate object. starting with a plane. I think Im going to make his bandanna a separate object too.
But anyway here is an advance in sclupting adding a few more details.

Well, I worked on his hat a bit. I added a solidifier mod to it. still needs a lot of work. and I did a bit more on the face. I think the next thing will be making the bandanna a separate object. That way I can still use the symmetry for the body and not for the bandanna. Anyway, getting closer I think.

Well, I got his bandanna started as a separate object. Now I can work on it with no symmetry and his body with symmetry. A little more work on his hat, and more tweaks on his face.

Your getting closer Glassdog… pretty soon he’ll be saying … “Howdie Pilgrim” You should post up the reference photo your working off of.

Thanky Harleynut. Actually I’m working from four reference photos. But these are the two main ones.

Some more work on the Duke. Bandanna folds, facial tweaks. Worked on his hat.

A few more tweaks. I think its time to switch to a multi-res topology. so my next step is to retopologize, add a multi res modifier. and get ready for texturing.
