Joining meshes, retain individual materials?

Hey, I’ve been making an object (skateboard) out of several seperate meshes. I’de like to know 2 things:

  1. Is it possible to somehow move just the skateboard (it is in a scene) to a different blend file, and save it as just the skateboard.

  2. Each of the meshes has it’s own material, if I join the meshes (by selecting them all and pressing “J”) will they lose their materials? I want to do this but I don’t want it to lose it’s materials.

Thanks for reading, I hope you can answer my questions.

Blender rules,

  1. Just append the objects to another empty blend file and save it with a different name. Shift-F1 to append, Right click to select multiple objects.

  2. yes, it keeps the different material.

Thank you theeth.

I managed to join the meshes successfully.

About appending objects… Do objects need to be named (or is it better to name them) for when they are being appended?

Thanks again, much appreciated.

It’s better if you name them, that way you can easily tell which object is what.

Ok, thanks again.

in case you still have problems, you can just save your scene under another name (do it first for safety) and then delete everything but the skateboard and save it.

Yeah I just thought of that lol. Thanks banana_sock
