Judgment of proteins - feedback plz!

(yocoim) #1

Hello,

I am trying to illustrate a novel method that allows to “Judge” proteins.

Could you please let me know what improvements do you think could be added?

Thanks!

the flesh area your protine stands on looks very straight compated to the rest of the background, also I think the hammer should have some wood or rubber on it to make it easier for whoever is judging.

I have no idea what protines look like, but you might want to make it bigger and add detail because it looks a bit messy this small.

EEEWWW!!!

Can’t add anymore then that, except to agree to Agony’s points.

I also think the background needs improvement,
If i’m not mistaken you’re going for a biological sort of inside-the-body material, it will have to be a lot more irregular and noisy than this(and less reflective)

I saw a thread around here on producal shaders, you should check it out, some guys posted really great *.blend files.

edit: here’s the thread I was talking about: http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?t=31896

This could be a very interesting project to follow, it certainly seems like you have picked a tricky setting for your scene though. Naturally being internal, everything would be pretty dark and not lit as much as you have it at the moment, though how you can produce any sort of lighting right that looks natural and also like it inside the body could be a major obstacle that will stump the realism of it.

One possible solution would be to set the scene to look as though it has been captured on a camera that is used to look inside people, this however would require me doing some research into images that I am not prepared to look for while I’m eating, so I have no links to post as an example, sorry, hehe.

Interesting concept though and a good start

  1. The hammer looks like it is clipping the red stuff. If this is intentional you need to make it look better
  2. The hammer should be more reflective.
  3. I agree, the reflection and spec. should be turned down on the red stuff.

Thanks all for your comments! I should have explained a bit more what it represents actually.

The background is a red version of the inside of the yellow protein.
I would like it to have a “molecular” aspect, not too much a “inside body” aspect (Agony, thanks a lot for the thread on procedural fleshy textures though, that will definitly be useful).

The “inside” can be seen here on this video:

In the video I wanted to do a sort of “fractal” thing where it starts outside the protein, and goes inside the protein where there is the same protein and so on indefinitely.

> 3. I agree, the reflection and spec. should be turned down on the red stuff.

I also agree. Without the movie it could be less shiny.

>v1. The hammer looks like it is clipping the red stuff. If this is intentional you need to make it look better

It is intentional because the background is irregular and I cannot lay the hammer down. Plus it gives some sort of movement. How would you make it look better in terms of making obvious that it is clipped?

> 2. The hammer should be more reflective.

I tried that but then it becomes red …

> also I think the hammer should have some wood or rubber on it to make it easier for whoever is judging.

Hahaha, yes. I tried another direction before:

but I dropped the “realism” - I now try to concentrate on something that pleases the eye even if it does not make sense. This is why I prefer not to add wood in this scence.

Thanks again for the comments, updates 2 come!

Suggestions/ideas still welcome!
