Just a small blender preset change? I am lost!

Hi,

I have gone through all the tutorial i could find, but i am not a programmer and the preferences setup in blender just confuses me.

First I am a former Max/Softimage(XSI) user. I am trying to fallow tutorials for blender and the selection and navigation logic is giving me, even after quite a while still a hard time. So i was trying to figure out what the main issue is. I came to the result that is basically only a few small things:

  • Navigation in the view port
  • Border-Selection/Deselect of objects/components

Since that is what modelers do constantly i am trying to change these 2 settings. I like the way it is when I switch the preset to MAYA, but all other keys like WERTY are changed as well. So it is hard to follow the tutorials again, I would like to go a middle way here.

What i am looking for is just a way to have all the key is blender stay the way they are and only change the the way you navigate and select items in the viewport.

Since “B” is for border.select it will be free once it is changed, so it could be used insted of “ALT” since that is used for quite a lot of functions in blender. So the idea is (Like in the maya preset):

B+Left Mouse - Rotate View
B+Middle Mouse - Pan View
B+Right Mouse - Zoom View

Left Mouse Drag - Marque Select Object/Components
Shift Left Mouse Drag - Add to selection
Cntl Left Mouse Drag - Subtract from selection

That is actually all i want but i cant get it to work… Can someone please help me to get this done? It would be much appreciated…
Please if i expressed anything unclear or weird  please ask me and i would be glad to explain it in a way to your understanding…

Thanks,
Ed

B+Left Mouse - Rotate View
B+Middle Mouse - Pan View
B+Right Mouse - Zoom View

Hi,

Thanks for your reply Richard Marklew, but somehow it does not work for Zoom View. Or am i doing something wrong here?

Can someone help me with the second part of my undertaking?

Left Mouse Drag - Marque Select Object/Components
Shift Left Mouse Drag - Add to selection
Cntl Left Mouse Drag - Subtract from selection

Thanks,
Ed

Try changing to the maya hotkey preset (in the splash window change interaction to maya)

what this will do is change the config to the following
alt + leftclick = rotate
alt + MMB = pan
alt + rightclick = zoom

which leaves leftclick = borderselect and shift leftclick adds to the selection
