Just curious? I had to stop creating due to painful wrist!

I had to stop following the tut for about 4 days to rest my arm/tendons. I had problems years ago, and I really dont want them back again. smile.

I used to use a mouse touchpad, but found I had to replace it about every three months, so I went back to the mouse. But this wont do, so I reasearched several touchpads and tablets and got a headache!

I would really like to have one that is smaller so I dont have to drag my whole arm around. I would like it to be used mostly for traversing all the software I use, not just graphic products.

It would be great if it had programable areas for me to click on. I found one that says its like that but everywhere I read most people say to buy the wacom intuos tablet.

However, I dont find/see any information stating it has programable areas, etc. And for the bucks, it should have.

So my question/s: Can anyone tell me more about wacom tablets? Has anyone used this

That’s the one I was thinking about getting. It comes with a 1 year warranty and isnt that expensive and seems to have the features I’m looking for.
Grateful for any opinions, thanks much.

I almost forgot to ask, can you use your finger on the pads, instead of a pen? probably not, since so many require a battery.

There is thread about this here . But as I stated in that thread you might want to look into getting a bigger tablet . Because if you are having problems like that a small tablet will make it worse . Always remember to use your whole arm if possible and not just your wrist - even with a mouse . It will cause less strain and the eventual pain that comes with over using your wrist .

No, you can’t use your finger instead of the pen, at least on the one I have. But the pen tablet is very nice. I tend to alternate between using the mouse and the pen, and also a touchpad on a laptop (which, if I overuse it, will KILL my tendons, especially my thumb, which presses the buttons).

I think the position for holding the pen is probably the best, ergonomically, so I try to use the pen to give my arm a rest. I find the buttons a little bit unresponsive (my tablet is now about two years old). But I really like it overall, as an option.

As for wrist pain, none of the ergonomic wrist-pillows you can buy at computer stores seemed to help me at all so eventually I got myself a velcro wrist supporter with a metal strut in it which helps a lot. I’d highly recommend one of those. You can probably find one at a sports supply store.

Me too, but for other keyboarding problems, not Blender related. Bend the metal strut so your wrist is held up at a slight angle and your palm is in a cupped position when relaxed. I found mine in a pharmacy. They had a whole shelf with wrist braces, knee supports, ace bandages.

I made the palm rest pad/sock out of soft foam mat that you could buy in roll or as the resting mat for your sun glass on the car dash board. It help a lot as I do feel the pain on the ball of the palm. Hope this help.
As for tablet you should get the wacom wireless type grahire3 or better.

Glucosamine Chondroitin with MSM. It may or may not help you as it’s only effective for a certain percentage of the population. Made all the difference in the world for me. I’m young again. Good dealer for price / quality: vitacost.com Buy in bulk for better discounts and save the shipping costs. Well, after you know it’ll work. Takes about two weeks to really take hold. It’s so nice to be pain free again.

Provides essential nutrients to stimulate cells to help build joint cartilage.

The body uses glucosamine sulfate, a natural compound, to stimulate cells to create one of the main building blocks of joint cartilage – proteoglycans.

Chondroitin sulfate attracts and holds large amounts of water to the cartilage-building proteoglycan molecules. Since cartilage has no blood supply, this fluid is necessary to nourish and lubricate joints.

MSM (methylsulfonylmethane, or dimethyl sulfone) is a sulfur-containing molecule found in various plants and some body tissues. It is a natural and efficient source of the sulfur that is used by many of the body’s structural molecules, including joint cartilage.

Thank you all. I forgot, I do have 3 wrist supports. LOL. All have metal in them. One is short, then one longer, then the one that goes to my elbow! Its so ugly but it works. I will pull the medium length out and use it.
The wacum graphires dont have programable areas or I would buy one of those.

On the touchpads that I loved, they had the two buttons, but I never used them, because you could just double tap etc. I wish they lasted longer than a few months.
Thank you.

Try a search on " CAD digitizers".
Most graphics tablets are not designed for what you’re trying to do.
CAD digitzers are very programmable. I had an old SummaSketch.
One thing about the CAD digitzers that I’m sure you will notice right away: the good ones are quite expensive.

And a very cheap option.
Try working with both hands.
Really, it’s easier then it seems.
P

yes, I have used two mice at the same time, but when typing too, it was too confusing to find both mice when I went back to them…more practice…LOL
Cad digitizers, will do… you know I think I still have an old summa sketch, but its really old, wasnt programable as I recall. hmmmm

Oh, and another cheap solution… take a break once in a while. When was the last time you spent a whole day away from the computer? (I know it’s been a while for me…)

STAY AWAY FROM MY COMPUTER FOR A WHOLE DAY??? LOL, I would have to be hospitalized to do that.
But I did take 4 days off with just a few mouse clicks to be able to mouse about again.

I try another idea get the foam wrapper that wrap a single fruit (found in Australian fruit market don’t know else where??) they are expandable to fit most hand - feel much more with cushion than the earlier suggested idea.
