Just like candy (yafray & Indigo & blender physics study)

Hello fellow blender enthusiastics. This is my first WIP post here, just trying to hone up my general 3D skills after a long pause…

The idea came up when finding out how to fill volume with objects most conveniently. Blender bullet physics engine did the job quite nicely (albeit there are certain limits). There is exactly 576 pills in that jar handled by physics engine.

I tried to make it look clean and sterile and to use minimalistic approach. Also tried to achieve at least some kind of photorealism as this is yafray study as well. I might render it again to remove all gradient changes from the shadows and do some more tweaking.

Do you think that some kind of light reflections would be in place inside the jar?

C&C welcome…

yea, it looks like the light is not illuminating the pills inside the jar like the ones outside. and if it’s a clear jar…

try placing a spotlight inside the jar to light the pills directly.

Well it would be extremely difficult to place lights inside the jar to get the arealight effect that I’m after… and unfortunately yafray doesn’t support lighting only the objects on the same layer with the lights…

Only method (that I’m aware of) is using photons and caustics and I have never had good results with yafray caustics… Photons just seem to have the life of their own… Any tips?

I’ll look into it, in the mean time I will try Indigo renderer too…

EDIT: I let Indigo to run for 7h 16min last night and here’s what it got together (some color tweaking & noise reduction done). It didn’t come out quite as I would liked but it’s quite good nevertheless (except the noise off course and that I don’t know how to apply textures for that glass material I used):

Cool images, both of them… and cool idea to make physics engine handle the capsules…

Thanks…

The idea is originally from an Softimage XSI rigid body videotutorial and someone asked how to fill volume with objects in blender… so I thought that blender physics engine should be able to do that…

If someone is interested in this technique, here is the original thread: http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?t=91647

PS: I have had some progress with yafray caustics… stay tuned…
