Thanks for the sketch, it helped a lot I think, working on the highlights now. Not sure if I should use lights or something like this: Pros/Cons to either. http://cgcookie.com/blender/2010/11/10/creating-a-gloss-image-map/

Ok, here are some new renders. I think I’m pretty happy with the face, unless someone points something major out. Starting to work on the clothing and body now. Comments and critics would be appreciated.

I am not sure what materials you are going to use, but here is my suggestion for quick, high AA, realtime with lights but no shadows. It will allow you to control spec and shaders directly from any number of lights in your scene. I personally like sunlamps for toon styles since it is predictable and position does not matter. See what you think:

and the .blend with the basic toonify material includes:

Thanks Jikz, I’ll take a look at it. Right now I’m using a material from this blend on Blend Swap: http://www.blendswap.com/blends/characters/blenrig-4-01-gilgamesh/

I like the cartoon-style hair, may I ask you (although it’s true that this thread is mainly intended for their authors to ask questions rather than the opposite) what is your general workflow in modeling it? Any tip or tutorial you took inspiration from?

s12a It’s was a really crazy/stupid process I started just modeling. This is my first attempt at a character so I just started modeling not paying attention to topology of any kind. Once I kind of had the head the way I liked it I showed it to a couple people and they refereed me to all the topology tutorials on blendercookie.com. I then retopo’d the model with proper topology and just took bits and pieces from many bcookie tutorials and lots of help and advice from other artist here on the forum and in the community.
