Here’s my recent work, done for the Octane new year competition (unfortunately without results :D). It’s a typical well & house of the Karst region of Slovenia. Old style. The main focus was put on the well model & textures. Modeled in Blender 2.49 (ivy was done with Ivy generator), textures & post in GIMP and rendered with Octane.
I consider it finished and most certainly won’t have the will to do more corrections (spent a lot of time on this already :D), but I would still like to hear critics & what you people think. I’m not entirely satisfied with grass (some of it is too thick), the vine foliage (distribution) doesn’t look 100% natural & the house wall should be less glossy.
In the last render (which is my preferred) I tried to make a more warm & welcome atmosphere (at the expense of realism). Overall, the feeling I wanted is those good old times.
Grass is particle system object group visualization, pure hand modeled geometry (half sphere -> duplivert a mesh strand -> makereal -> tweak with proportional editing). I had to move the grass around, depending on camera POV, because I was running out of RAM…
@Evil Moon MOose
You are right. It was actually bigger at first, but I scaled it down just before doing the final render (4 in the morning, sleepy head, deadline on fast approach :D)
PRE-DIV-NO!!! As lovely and photorealistic as it gets! I agree with your remarks about the image, but none of it is show-stopper, and I have seen some real photographs that seem less real than this!
well, i guess im just good at spotting things lmao i spotted quite a few things in the Durian movie with other durian stuff in it, and a lot of blender logos lmao
I tried normalmapping at first, but it didn’t look good enough, so I opted for displacement modifier, which I then applied and sculpted a little more. Actually, the wall is not that heavy - half of the geometry data goes to grass
