Hi, I’m trying to follow tutorials to learn the basics of Blender but the keyboard shortcuts in the videos are usually not the same for me. Eg, I was told to press shift+I to isolate an object but those keys do nothing for me.
Is this normal?

Well, what version of Blender is the video using, and what version of Blender are you using? Blender tends to change its functionality every other release or so, and this often builds up into very dated instructions relatively quickly.
In the videos it’s 2.7, mine is 2.78. Is that a huge jump?
Basic shortcuts don’t change and haven’t for years.
What tutorial ? are they using the default keyboard config or some custom shortcuts. If not using the defaults, dump the crap tutorials and use some decent ones
