Keyframing visibility of an object

hi,
if i animate object property/visibility (render/viewport) of an object, i can only have value 0 or 1 in the graph editor …is it not possible to get inbetween values; to fade it in/out ?
or am i animation a wrong visibility value?

i know that i could also make a mix-shader and animate that.

then you should use the alpha value of your material

You could keyframe the material transparency or use a math node.

but this visibility thing cant fade…?
