so here’s a sculpt i’ve been working on for the cgtalk hardcore modeling challenge

I know it’s not perfect, but it’s more than a test so I thought I’d post here
modeled, sculpted, and rendered with 2.5

not perfect?
I thought it was realistic stylization.
'k let’s go with that
Wow Jeepster, the detail in this is truly amazing… I can see that these past few years of hardcore modelling and sculpting has been paying off! The competition over at CGSociety is pretty steep, but I think you have a decent chance of winning! Until then though, I will be eagerly keeping an eye on your entry in this contest
Peace
Very impressive Jeepster. I’d be interested in your opinion on how much better sculpting is in 2.5 over 2.49.
Hey jeepster, I now this from your test thread. Its just a great sculpture. !!!:yes::yes:
You rendered this? Looks more like a ‘matcap’ solution. How many poly there? How can we bake millions of poly? (and yes @Lancer, v2.5 can sculpt millions of poly). This is my problem, for the moment. How many vertices and faces can new Blender Internal renderer can handle (and bake)?
With some fur and texturing this would look pretty muhc real.
Um, no fur? It’s not like we don’t have particles.
Seriously though, it is well done.
Great model. I saw the other participants models and you are one of the best.
thanks everyone!
i was thinking of doing fur, but this was meant to be more of a statue/bust rather than a photo, so particle hair would look weird
sculpting the hair would be awesome, but i really have no idea how to do that so i left him with a shaved look
michalis: yeah it is a matcap that I used in render
it’s about 1.4 million polies and if i had to render with shading, i probably would have to bake it to a lower res for rendering, but without shading and a simple matcap texture it rendered easily at the highest resolution.
i do this technique with just about all of the sculpts I render so i’m really not sure how well blender bakes and renders highpoly stuff
Yeah. But my last post (the museum style thing) counts 3 millions vertices (due to displacement-subsurf modifier), all this in bl v2.5 alpha2 (official). Haven’t try to bake though, brr lol
Anyway, its a great sculpt, you have some great sculpt skills. !!!
And mostly, I understand that you prefer pure sculpture, that make you happy. I know…
I am not worthy to add any other comment then; Awesome!!! Beautiful work looks just like Kong!!
impressive sculpt!
this is the proof that blender sculpt rocks!
Hair is like other features, it has volume, mass and texture. Check out some traditional sculpture for ideas on technique. Much can be achieved with suggestion rather than highly explicit depiction.
It’s a great sculpt so far but he looks odd so bald. Given the level of detail in the forehead and underside of the muzzle, sculpted hair would be well within your capabilities, I think. I agree that for this particular model, particle hair would look out of place.
always nice job man! keep going! 5stars btw
thats pretty slick jeepster
I would think its ears should be bigger… having said that, it’s f-ing awesome lol
incredible what kind of computer do you have
Why isn’t the hat shown here?!
