hi all,
still a work in progress (you may have seen at the yafray forum)… A long way to go till it’s finished, but thought it was nice to show for now… C&C welcome!

Something about it looks odd…but I can’t quite put my finger on it. I think its just too dark given that really bright light coming in the window. And the table top isn’t thick enough either. The walls need outlets as well.
What might be a bit odd is that there’s light coming from stairs off to the left and from the tiles on the floor (there’s a slight bug in the phong shader in Yafray just now and I haven’t got round to making generic shaders for these yet).
You’re right about it being a bit dark, but I’m not sure how to brighten up the scene without making the colors of the surfaces much lighter than I want them. Any suggestions? Basically I just want a bit more light bouncing around…
sockets etc will follow at a later date (and nicer colors / textures)… the model is a complete house I’m intending to build in Scotland sometime in the next 5-10 years… and it’s still in it’s infancy…
ok, here’s my 2 cents worth
if your going to build this kitchen you might want to consider centering the sink on the window? or was it your intention to have it offset?
also I find the floor distracting
are you going for a “plank” look, or should it be lino?
i work in construction so those things draw my eye
otherwise nice job
cheers

The tabletop and the floor should probably not throw such distinct reflections, otherwise great render.
hi all,
many thanks for the comments, will be putting many of them into effect soon (as well as finishing the modelling!)…
In the meantime, I’ve been playing around with quicktime VR and Yafray if anyone’s interested. Here’s an early attempt (the top and bottom renders were early test renders as I never finished the sequence). I did this before the picture, so nothing fixed as of yet:
