Sorry, if this is bit off topic, but I just was so freaking amazed when I saw this. The graphics alone are worth the download. And the size where they’ve managed to squeeze this baby in is just amazing. I mean 96 kb.
Those screen shots look amazing… unfortunetely it won’t display on my box… ATI 128 meg FireGL video card… I read the readme file and it most likely has never been tested with a FireGL card…
Oh well, it sounded good anyways…
Does it play and look as good as the screen shots? I can’t believe it’s under 100K… that’s insane… it must do some kind of decompression when it starts up… the progress bar took a little while to load… not long, but long enough to think it’s doing some kind of “unpack” of data…
Thanks for the link… I’ll email them my specs and see about a fix…
Most of the textues I believe are procedural, meaning they’re generated at runtime. Also all the music is synthesized. I was able to play it and was quite impressed. These guys did a demo a few years ago that was also very cool.
I did not play the game thru, mainly because I lack the horsepower to run this one smoothly, but I can say I did not see any ghraphic glitches with my FX card.
it is a number of programs that renders out the game during the loading progress. although the infile is under 100k - the outfiles are way above 300 MB! think of it as blender scene set to output about 150 uncompressed images at 320X240 and 640x480 and then map them around the scene.
it stutters alot because of the massive imagemaps, even at top of the line graphics cards as they aren’t made to run with uncompressed imagemaps. oh well, just goes to show that you can do alot with not that much code.
simply mind boggling! :o
the coders that made it also are skilled at 64k demos. if you arent familiar with these you can download a few at http://www.farb-rausch.com/
notice how much smoother these run and the detail displayed are comparable to kkrieger
in time kkrieger will be much more playable, remember it is a relatively early beta.
if only commercial game releases would take notice we wouldnt have to have games on 3-7 cd-s or dvds. one would do nicely
This is a great game! I didn’t have one crash on loading or exiting it. The lighting was a little too dark I think. The controls were smooth and easy to use. The bots behaved naturally. All around this project turned out good.
I have a feeling that the reason that the demo was too dark was because if your graphics card. A friend of mine at work was playing the game on a geforce4 and the lighting was all wrong compared to what I was seeing (I have an FX card) . It was very dark and there seemed to be strange lighting artifacts.
