Klein Bottle *Update

Just messing around with 2.46.

Its a Klein Bottle, with a glowing green liquid/gel inside.
blender internal (no caustics :()
A little glow with composite.


This wasn’t really a “project” so I’m calling it finished. Still open to c&c though.

You should look in to using YafRay or Indigo.

Yeah, but they take too long to render :slight_smile:
Maybe I’ll try to get yafray working.

How’s come this is holding a liquid?

Even a single surface can have low spots where liquid will pool.

Any mathematician will tell you that the Klein bottle can only exist in 4 dimensions, for our world of only 3 dimensions it can only be a representation. In a 4D world the liquid would not stay in and though Acme sells intriguing bottles that, yes can be ‘filled’ - they are not the ‘real’ thing.
Then again, would’nt it be cool to find out that Blender has developed an open source
4D program?

I know it’s not a “real” klein bottle, and I also know a glowing purple ring won’t float in mid air and hold the stand together.

It’s generally the same like a mobius ring: Pick a side, and follow it around. You’ll see that the inside is the same ‘side’ as the outside. The Klein Bottle is based on the same principle.

Yeah. I just made sure the mesh was “double sided” and had a high render subsurf. The actual switch is where the bottle intersects itself. (well, a “real” klein bottle doesn’t intersect itself, because it is 4d)
At first I was afraid to re-calculate the normals. I thought it would go into an endless loop or something. (It actually just puts the “ring” in a random spot)

ok now thats creepy! i just showed my dad this bottle thing and he made a mobius ring and said pretty much exactly what you just said!!!
