Lag with Texture

I am working on a windows 7 machine with 8 gB ram and i7 dual core using Blender 2.60.
I have a decimated model from Zbrush of about 300k faces. As soon as I apply a 4k texture to this object, i experience significant slow down in the view port. I only ask this because maya and viewport 2.o seems to handle if fine, and was wondering if I was missing something in Blender that would resolve this issue.

I have solved the issue by turning on VBO’s under the system tab of user preferences. Much better response time now.
