perhaps some of u remember older threads written by me, where i announced a short video dealing with the slogan and topic of a LAN (local area network)
both are 4 minutes long and IMO noone who loads the large version will be disappointed
i added no sound, cause (already mentioned earlier) there will be no possibility to play an audio stream while showing the movie on the LAN via beamer. perhaps i’ll add some sound if this prob is solved
the hole scene consists of 1000000 vertices (after subsurf) several hundreds of objects over 500000 particles and static halos.
if i sum all time i’have used for all models the hole video took me about 500h of worktime over the last 15 month
the rendertime was about 40h with 3 PC’s working parallel (P4M 1700; P42000; athlon 1200)
rendering one frame took a minimum of 300MB RAM and the very detailed scenes (including a lot if particles) took about 420MB

Don’t bother adding sound, it’s a rare thing to see a realistic sounding space-fight
whoah that was long and big a lot of shooting around.
I didn’t get the all the plot, but doesn’t matter, I guess it was about blasting each others in space … anyways, how did you do the last scene, with the lasers cutting the fonts off the plane? and then the cannon shooting the black letters… ?
Fighters fly very well, big ships are static and impressive, yes, very nice.
I must agree thoug, that camera movement is not top notch, your last asteroid flight wase more intriguing, light too, even if I apreciated a lot the light of the weapons shining on the ship, is a bit too uniform and flat.
the cutting beam itself is a static line constisting of halos. where the beam hits the metal a single vertices is emitting particles that follow (IPO’s linear not bezier) the beam way.
about “holes”… well first i tried to to every hole on its own. (meaning a lot of boolean subtraction of the metal ground and a small cylinder)
of course this would be the best way to realize chaingun shots hitting and penetrating a metal plate. instead i just used halos and i think this is the best (and most easy) way of doing over 150 shots
