Land of Lords (talent needed) RPG [ON HOLD]

Hello everyone.

First of ALL.

I am starting a new big project. I haven’t been an active blender user due to the reason that I have been learning new languages(C++) and libraries(opengl,sdl,sdl_net) as I want to start making an MMORPG.

The game

As the title says, this is a prototype for a game. the game is going to be an MMORPG. yes I know many people are wanting to start a big massive project like this and then get flamed by the people. THIS IS A PROTOTYPE. so there will be no Networking only the physics, gameplay, and graphics testing.

The game is named Land of Lords and I am not going to change it. LOL

About the Game.

I am not going to post the full detail about the game, as I haven’t wrote a full game documentation on it. (I am at the process of starting it).
Time: Dark ages, legends and myths, magic etc

Setting: Tuto Island, this island is the island of Lord “Tuto” and he is one of the lords. the Prototype is only going to be based in Tuto Island. There are Magic schools, market where you buy weapons and food, you can fight monsters in the forest, you can harvest to make food and other things, and you can go mining where you can find food, and you can manufacture weapons etc and keep them or sell them. you can learn new skills by going to the library.

Things you can do in the game: you can become a pirate, a fighter, harvester, seller, manufacturer etc

Characters: you can become a Human character or a mage, Elf, dwalf etc

Enemy: the enemies are orcs, dragons, ogres and other nasty creatures that try to take over the Land of Lords.

other things you can do: you can do quest from NPC that give you them, you can have pets that help you on your quest. I will update this list soon.

Baseline about the history of Tuto Island (by asros)
Tuto Island is a small, peaceful island. It belongs to a kingdom called Aida. Aida consists mostly of islands which are ruled by lords. Aida is best known from its ships. Shipbuilding is an ancient talent amongst the people of Aida and they are masters of it. However, these ships are also used by pirates. They are a constant threat. They plunder the trade caravans which travel between islands. Merchants use wizards to protect their ships while at sea.

Few years back Aida was at war with Alaria, their northern neighbors. Aida was able to defend the border, but the once warm relationship between the two kingdoms was gone.

Tuto Island is near the northern boarder of AIda. It was used as a small base during the war. Many men living there were recruited on the warships. Most of them never returned.

In Tuto Island there is a Wizard Academy. Those who have the will and talent to understand the mystic arts can learn to master their skills in there.


THE TEAM

about me.
I am a programmer and I am going to be the lead programmer for this project. I can also model and animate but I have seen a lot of people in this forum who can do it better than me, so I am going to keep my position as a programmer and I will also help out in the modelling/animation section until there are some artists offering to help.

This will be a great experience to making an MMORPG for all of us:D

Well, you’re showing very little respect for your prospective teammates, but if that’s how you want to run your project, that’s your lookout.

I was only joking on the above post, but I know people would join if I have got something to show and I am working on it. this could be my work in progress type of thing so more info and maybe some screenies :wink:

I kind of know how it is, need to build your portfolio. anyhow, I'd like to help. I am decent at character modeling and rigging. PM me a sample assignment, including max polys, subject, characteristics whatever you feel is necessary to develop the character. I'd also like to try my hand at some concept art.

I’m wondering how you’re going to make a prototype MMORPG game without the MMO. Wouldn’t that just be an RPG?

Hey here is some stuff I have already done. its somewhat relevant… maybe? well ones a picture of an alchemist the other is a goofy knight with rig. might be helpful somewhere.

yes it will be just an RPG. this is for getting the models, gameplay, and animation etc no networking included.

yeah that is pretty good knight I like it. the rigging is perfect keep up the good work mate ;). also I need a mage. (wizard + Witch). Lord Tuto is a mage. lol.

I might be willing to help with story and quests if you need help in that section. I have been working on a novel for quite some time so I do know something about writing stories. If you’re interested just PM me :smiley:

also I will post some concept art of the object in the middle of the town of Tuto Island and how I want the road to look like. If we don’t get any people modelling the static objects I might start on it. also I was thinking of giving it an old look by using the bump mapping which is really nice I will try and make some gray scale images to use on it, if anyone would want to help on that you can.

So if I got this right, this is a MMORPG without the MMO elements (at least not yet). That is way different than RPG. In most of the games that fall into RPG(no MMO) category, the story revolves around the hero. But in MMO that’s almost impossible to do because of the amount of “heros”. In my exerience story in MMO is more about the world and quests than it is about the player.

Before I start putting down ideas, I would like to know which road to pursue. If this is going to be a MMO at some point, I’ll start creating the general history and the overview of the world, but if this is just normal RPG, I would start with culture and focus on characters more.

well it isn’t an MMO yet. and yeah I want to to be an MMO eventually so it isn’t about one hero its about the world. etc you will do quests and gain experience in many fields etc. but the culture and character classes are going to be different so a player will have to choose carefully which to pick depending on what he is interested in.
