Land Rover Defender 110

Calling this one done. It’s by far the biggest project I’ve done in Blender. I could do much more with it but I’ve pretty much run out of steam and gotten board with it! Time to start a fresh project i think!

Was modelled in 2.66 & 2.68, rendered in cycles (1500 samples) with colour tweaks and lens flares in PS.

Any comments or observations welcome.

Your hard work paid off, SC101! Your image is very dynamic and works well when viewed both small (such as a thumbnail) and large! You’ve paid careful attention to the modelling as well, which looks great.

I like the lighting you’ve given to the vehicle as well. Lighting cars can be extremely difficult to do properly.

If I had any critiques, it would be with regard to the lens flares; with the vehicle at the angle it is with respect to the camera, I’m not sure the flares would be as strong as they are in the image. For instance, the vehicle’s left headlight is casting a stronger flare than the right, even though it’s light should be weaker due to the angle of incidence (I hope I’m explaining my idea properly). Were the flares added in 2d as a post effect?

Great work all around! I know what it’s like to be burnt out and want to move on. Now that you’ve accomplished this wonderful work, your future projects will benefit from it! And hopefully some of them will be less daunting as well!

Thanks very much for the encouraging comments James! The flares were indeed added in photoshop after the fact. I have to admit this was a case of me finding the lens flare effect in PS and going a little overboard with it! I’m pretty new to PS so i tend to just blindly add effects and colour adjustments until i like the feel of what i see. I think your critique is spot on and if i was doing more work to this i would put more effort into the whole headlight area.

Thanks again for the encouragement, it gives a great boost to get cracking on the next project!
