landing zone

Here’s something I made tonight called “landing zone.” I think this was my first real attempt to integrate motion blur in a scene. This was done in about an hour and a half in Blender 2.28:

Cool! I like it. Is it supposed to be underwater or in space or on a planet or what? . :stuck_out_tongue:

the bright light kinda obscures the geometry of the scene, so the detail is kinda lost

Could be both. I had in mind a planetary surface, but any of the other choices could work with a little extra editing (stars for space, caustics for water). Thanks for checking it out.

Looks pretty good to me. I think it kind of adds to the ambience. Being a former Seattle-ite, it reminds me a bit of one of our local structures. The heavy atmosphere is very cool.

Yes, the light is on the bright side. At some point I’m going to animate this, so the bright light is just from the jets of the passing spaceship. There are three different spotlights for the exhaust, and that becomes more apparent at different angles. If I have the space on my website I’ll post an animation of the ships flying by. There’s not an incredible amount of details on the ships, so they’ll be flying by fast  As the ships pass I also want the camera to move slowly through the landing zone. There’s some mist in here too, so that accounts for some of the haziness cast off by the halo enabled spotlights.

Thanks for the feedback!

Thanks, Modron! After playing with extrusions I wound up with the main landing site on the left. In terms of atmospherics I was thinking along the lines of Star Wars Episode II where Obi-Wan goes to the watery world Kamino. I also had in the back of my mind Bespin from Empire Strikes Back, only these platforms aren’t floating like that.

Textures could use more work, although I consider this static shot finished. For the animation I plan to do, whenever I get the time, I’ll refine things further and hopefully get something cool and potentially cinematic in feel out of this sequence.
