large outdoor video resolution?

Has anyone created content for large outdoor video screens? I’m thinking this is like producing content for anything else, but that the rendering is extemely high in resolution. Any thoughts regarding this type of render would be welcome (including telling me this is the wrong place to discuss this).

These screens vary in size quite a bit. But even a hypothetical instance from anyone who knows would be of great help.

Yep, it is. Rendering is rendering, video is video. What’s the format for the screen(s)? If you like to run HD1080p (1920x1080) frame times go through the roof. If you’re talking syncronized output to a 3x3 array, each doing 720x540 interlaced for NTSC 29.97… I hope you have a rack full of high-power boxes or a lot of lead time. And money. Both would be helpful.

If no rack, then you’ll have to outsource; pay a renderfarm. Even for just a few seconds of a really simple scene it will crush you. You start talking about 2 or 3 minutes, you’re talking horsepower and many blank DVDs…

Once you know the size you need to render, and the length of an average frame, and the total # of screens… you can start to guesstimate what it’s going to take, rendering-wise. (and depending on the quality you want, file size.)
