Late Valentine's Day gift for my girlfriend

I’ve been working on a little something for my girlfriend - it was supposed to be for Valentine’s day but I got swamped with other work. That’s neither here nor there, though, because it really has no impact on the subject.

Here’s what I have so far - I’m wondering if it’s too simple? I’d like to hear what others think about it, and I can’t post it on Facebook for fear of her seeing it.

Nice idea, lookin pretty cool.
I think the grass on the right hand side hasn’t got enough randomness, it seems to have like a pattern in it or something.
Are the mannequins just for composition or thats the final thing?

I’ll see what I can do about the randomness I noticed that earlier. The mannequins are the final thing - I wanted to speak into our creative side a bit.

Ah well in that case very nice
Maybe add in a tree somewhere to the left side just to fill out the scene maybe?

Thanks - I think that would do rather well. The left side is really empty so that’s probably why it feels “off” to me. If anyone has any other suggestions I’d love to hear them!

I dont like the dirt… (too negative?) and i mean i would not want to see dirt, id rather see butterflies or something (yeah i know totally off but u get the point)
The clouds are too gray, and imo the whole image is just heading more toward gloomy.
I think you should liven it up a bit…maybe even add those butterflies lol. Remember how the big buck bunny grass looked?, that is what i mean by lively i guess. The grass in BBB made me want to be in that field but i dont think i would want to be standing in that picture in dirt all around me is gray clouds and dark grass.

And yeah it is a bit empty but then, it is like it is just you two…
Eh, hope this helped in any way.

I agree with the Butterflies idea, but maybe use Flowers instead? I like flowers and they are fairly easy to make using particle painting onto the areas you want them, then using groups ect. Just ideas, wouldn’t want yuor girlfriend dissapointed now ould we

Be careful in adding a tree, perhaps make it small, otherwise you will shift the focal point and thats bad :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah, it would be a full tree in the distance. I’m also contemplating a cityscape.

I didn’t notice the clouds until now, thanks for that. I’ll see what I can do about that. I’m going to add some more grass patches and flowers to the grass to flesh it out a bit, but I agree about the dirt. I did a render before this WIP without the dirt and I like that one a lot better (I think I was just looking for someone to agree with me).

I like it the way it is  Haven’t seen anything (like flowers) added to it, so I can’t compare, but still, nice and simple. Maybe (like people pointed out) the clouds are a bit dark, but otherwise great job. I know my girlfriend would like this, hopefully yours will too ^^

Thanks for the responses. I haven’t had much free time today but I made some changes to the clouds in the background and reverted back to the “grassy field” idea. I’m going to add in little flowers and other anomalies to the grass later when I get some free time.

Does this work better in comparison with the original post?

I really like this (and this last version better too), I think you’re right in not adding much more to it. Also, did you not make the mannequins hold hands on purpose or did that never cross your mind? If it doesn’t work with what you’re going for, nevermind, otherwise it may be interesting to try

If you’re asking if there was an underlying design decision to not holding hands, my answer is no, there’s not. I didn’t necessarily think that it was vitally important to understanding the piece, but I’m more than happy to experiment with the poses. I’ll play with it and post an update later tonight.

Yeah i like this better.
I noticed the texture on the mannequin, and something about it doesnt appeal to me, maybe the vertical lines?
maybe try do do something like in this short? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hgHYtdM9PME
maybe change the grass color?
Oh and imo it looks a bit like fur.
look at this grass: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSGBVzeBUbk

I made a lot of changes to the grass, hopefully that looks a little better. I think I’m going to leave the poses as is. What do you guys think?

Ah, the blender guru tut…
