Layering Materials with PNG Transparency

As an inexperienced Blender user, I can’t figure out now to:

  1. Have a shiny material, like metal
  2. Have a transparent logo/decal on top so the metal shows through

I’ve tried so many things. Does anyone have a good tut link, or suggestions?
I’ve done UV unwrap and “opened” an image in the UV image viewer. This gives control over the placement. But attempts to have the underlying materials show through fail.

Thanks!

it is very difficult in Blender’s internal renderer to create good metal, so i suggest LuxRender or Yafaray to do the rendering, and check on blendercookie.com for a decal tutorial.

good luck
