I am learning this to make my own textures. lately I like disney modeling
in picture 2 it is a image of a leaf in the movie Puss in Boots. anybody know where I can find more images or tutorials on this type of modeling? doesn’t seem to be in the toon category.
I was also reading about blender opengl and cycles. is there any info on how I can find results of the difference between those and mental ray etc?
As far as the modeling and texturing are concerned, it’s really not so much a matter of doing something different as in adding more detail to what you’re working on. In something like the first picture, you can get by with less detail but on something close up, like in the second image, you want to add in more detail. The basics of how are the same, whether you’re modeling or texturing for a cartoony look or a realistic look. Some of the detail might be added in the texturing, some might be added through bump or normal mapping, some might be sculpted in high frequency detail. It all depends on the image you’re working on, if it’s a still, or an animation.
For the leaf, as an example, you could have a relatively basic mesh for far away scenes, but for something close up, you might go through the effort of doing a multires sculpt to get the veins and ridges and even the high frequency pore detail, but then bake that last into a normal map that could be overlaid on a lower level of the multi res so that you can work with it in a more manageable way but still have the detail.
I’m not aware of any tutorials on a specific style, but you can adapt the techniques from most tutorials into whatever style you like with a little practice.
