Hi all
I’m new to blender and this forum (1st post). :slight_smile:
This is my first good work:

Now i got some noob questions:

  1. How do i get the blue light mirrored on the ground?
  2. How can i make the material of the clip look more like chrome?
  3. Any other ideas/improvements?

Please describe well what i have to do, cause, like mentioned before, i’m new to blender.
I’m sorry for any mistakes i made, but english is a foreign language to me :wink:

use an envmap instead of raytraced reflection

for number 2, you would usually want a medium or dark grey with a high ray mirror value, but not so high the base color is not really visible.

that’s the result of using an envmap. I did the map exactly like described in this tutorial:

That is exactly what i did, but it looks like plastic.

Do what the image says to fix it, but if you already did it I’m out of ideas.

Update:

  • improved the metall clip. Just decreased the hardness of the specularity and imo it looks quite better
  • added more details
  • I think with the light on the ground instead of the lightbeam, it looks more realistic. Therefore I had to make the ground lighter, because on the dark ground, you weren’t able to see the light.

It’s always good to use the newest versions, some of the new features you may want to use.

That last image looks very nice and, in my mind, is pretty much “a wrap.” There’s a little roughness around the edge of the black circle on the side of the lamp. See if you can make it look a little more like a slightly-raised button. But otherwise… “print it!” :smiley:
