Lengthening a Shot in VSE

(wolfie138) #1

In my animation, i have a shot that holds on an item for a few seconds before the camera pans off - i’m thinking it would be faster just to render one frame then dupe that up in the VSE to lengthen it to the required timing - is that possible, and is it the best way?

Yes, Strip can be made from single image.
Length can be set either when you Add Image Strip (Start-End Frame)

or after in the side bar Strip > Edit Strip > Length

or by clicking & dragging end arrows on the strip.

This is also a great use of compositing. Perhaps the camera holds, and there is something else moving very slightly in the frame (to maintain visual interest), but you’ve separately rendered “just the object,” and of course you need only one frame to support the entire hold.
