what video system do you use? Effects like LF can also be added in post pro when cutting the film as LF are only an overlay anyway.

video system? sorry I don’t understand?
I always thought LF was a post effect.Thats because i’ve only seen them available in composting software such as ae and nuke.Which tend to work in a 2.5d environment.
Blender is a 3d software so you could just add them in a scene with transparent textures, but i’m not sure how much control that will enable the artists.
things like LAYER OCCLUSION for instance.
The Design Interface looks appealing too. Openshot looks similar, but only available for linux?
Giving the artist the ability to design on fly seems like a bonus. It looks like a character rig where you can adjust sliders to change the size/shape/colours,order of patterns.
hmmm…
its something i’d rather do as a post/compositor effect.
SHeesh, I’ll use flares how I damn well please.
There was a great paper about them at siggraph last year (or before) and talk of implementing them as a mango target. that fell by the wayside but I’d love an easy to use high quality (and artist driven) toolset for flares
UNTIL THEN I’ll use optical flares in after fx… for all your flare needs… subtle to the full JJ.
Lets not be pompous, flares are great. They’re used in every single cg/vfx movie to a greater or lesser degree so it’s nonsense to say they’re out of fashion.
Michael, I guess my English was not spot on. What I tried to state is that in most cases people mis-use LF. Similar thing is with the current run for vignetting effects. They pop up in a lot of tutorials right now. But thats pointless effect design. Specifically because V is a sign for bad lens light quality.
I guess what I wanted to rather state is in case we get a LF system then it should be one that can really be worked with so you can produce results other then the stereotypical LF effect.
Lights can be real 3d or fake comped in. Which approach should be implemented in blender as a built in effect? That is a rigged lamp or a clever node layer.
I don’t really know, like in the after effects plugin,to me it seems like it would be like a p3d type thing, like http://p3d.in/9GLHs/spin but within blenders compositor
where everything is already stored and done, but you can manipulate it,and then just add it as an overlay, and it has “backdrop” feature like the compositor already has so you can see how it looks against the scene, also have the ability to adjust sliders.and adjust the shapes etc.
so it feels more like a “clever node”

sorry for thread necro, just wanted to share, cool lens flare shader in blender.
The lens flare on those suits are not lens flares under technical terms. They are blooms. But a lens flare and a bloom are both post processing effects you CAN already achieve in the current day blender set up. It’s all in post production however.
But I do agree that a well used lens flare does add more life and weather to the environment, but only if used right. For example. You do not bloom a fire in the middle of no where with absolutely no pollution. It may cast a glare on other glasses however.
Street lamps will generally have flares if they are intense. (Driving on a high way at night and everything is dark. Remember how it looks when you look at an on coming car or a street lamp?)
And those subtle blue lights on armor will usually only show under a volumetric. that means, in a war zone, yes it will show as a bloom. But in a peaceful time, no unless there is dust.
+1 for being in compo. just saw this on twitter.

That new flare effect is an OSL material. Pretty cool idea! And it has it’s own thread
