At the bottom of the main page it says the most users on BA forums at one time is 6,654. It would be fun if we could break the record sometime. It shouldn’t be hard with 156,000 members. I think we should go for 12:00 P.M European Central time, July 15. That’s a weekend so most people will be home, and I recently read that most blender users are European, so it makes sense to try and make it as convient as possible for Europe. The trick would be keeping it small enough so we don’t crash the site.
It would be fun…
The only thing it would accomplish is crashing the server and in that case would not allow anyone on the site at all.
So when you take that into account, it’s generally a bad idea.
If the server has “virtually” unlimited bandwidth, then there wouldnt really be a problem at all, unless someone DDOSes them.
To note, the forum has gone down for brief periods over the last year or so due to excessive load on the server.
If that if from regular usage of the forum, then it’s a safe it’ll likely happen again if you purposely try to flood the forum with users. It’s not so much the total amount of bandwidth, it’s how much bandwidth is being used at once.
Agreed - This is a factor one must put into consideration before implementation of that particuler program.
Maybe we could ask a site administrator how much the site can handle?
Last one looks to have happened right when Blender 2.60 was released. I wonder what was so special about that particular release that got people swarming in here.
That’s one way to be inconsiderate to other users slowing the site down or making it inaccessible while you are trying to get an answer to a support question.
Why not just simulate the effect yourself by unplugging your internet connection for 30 mins.
