Lexus LFA

Hello everybody I hope you holidays have been good so far. I finally had time to render these out, so I am now done with my (2011) Lexus LFA supercar. I started this back in March(ish) and wroked on it off and on for a while as my third car model. Now I am finally done.
The whole scene rendered out was around 650k faces, but only 200k in the viewport.
Render times were about 2 hours for each render.
The model can be found here on blendswap: http://www.blendswap.com/blends/view/71725
Enough with the words, let see some pictures.

Only three images per post, so here are two more:

And here are some clay/wire renders. be sure to view them full rez. They really show off the model.

The modelisation looks great but the render is too noisy. You should try to increase the sampling. But great work

Really nice. I agree with Ride the flow that it’s very noisy, if your computer if going to take too long to render the scene with high samples then you might want to use RayPump (http://www.raypump.com/). It’s an online render farm from with you can render your renders for free, samples up to 500 and resolution up to 1280x1080 (http://www.raypump.com/pro).

Thanks guys, I’ve wanted to use raypump before, but I could never get it to work, I will try again…

one of my favorite cars. quite a few topo errors. I can tell you split up the pannels before applying a low res subsurf. this causes odd edges that once may have looked fine to look sharp and disorderly. Besides this, all in all very good. maybe a little on the low sample sidem but good.

back to moodeling! There is so a lot to fix honestly… Just look at front bumper

Seriously kramon! “Just look at the front bumper,” “Back to ““moodeling””.” This just makes you sound like a Jack A**. People make mistakes, and everyone here is at a different level of experience with car modeling. I pointed out the topo errors and I was not the first one to do so. Not one nice statement in the single line you wrote.

I too have fallen pray to the “bad attitude” before. I know it usually spawns from a place of good intentions. It came across rather bad, though.

Back to ““moodeling!”” There is ““so”” a lot to fix honestly… Just look at your attitude

But c’mon… i can draw topology and help but Those are so big mistakes that when u look on photo and model. U can see even on blind eye how much stuff is diffrent. He should go back to modeling… and if he have some problem with some part… i will help him.

What i have to do? Draw in red circle what is wrong? Those are not some details but really big mistakes. With are easy to spot.

I have writed go back to modeling. because some people think that nah it will be okey. noo it will be not okey because such type of works there is shit amount. And i can see that he just make such car and then next and next… Better is to do one good car then 1000 shit.

I had to be a bit Agressive beacsue someone have to say the true story… when in first post guy writes that model is Great, this guy thinks that yeah i am awesome i am going for next model. This forum is not for this forum is for makeing better works. And if u can’t get critiq, this place is not for u

Nobody needs to be that aggressive. Yes, we can all see what you mean. Thats why I didnt give specifics in my comment about his topo. There is no point in your statement. You never NEED to be aggressive when giving HELPFUL advice, and nobody ever NEEDS to do what you tell them to begin with. Don’t demand he goes back to the drawing board, cuz your not his boss and your not paying him in advance.

What is this bull shit about “if you cant get critique” cuz its a load of bull. There was nothing constructive about what you said and it comes across like your saying his work is shit. I can count the topo errors in your models aswell, and point out the life like inaccuracy in your texturing methods, but dont tell me for an instant that if I acted like you did to him about your work, that you wouldnt get defensive.

You want to be constructive, fine. Here is an outline for you of what constructive looks like.

step 1: What you like
Example: Good work. I like the scene, good color, good balance.

step 2: Make a proper transition that doesnt make you sound like a douche bag into saying what you think needs work
Example: I think your front bumper might still need a little work. I can see it looks very rounded in the front. You might consider adding a few loops to the “mustache.” As it is, the front bumpers shape is beginning to resemble that of an old miata.

Step 3: Transition out with a “you are the artist” statement, and give one final compliment
Example: Im not sure if this was the look you where going for or not, if so than good work. One of the problems with being on the viewer end is you can only speculate what the artist was thinking up for the model when you look at it. Again, good work. Just something to consider that you may find to improve the flow.

Try this format, or something along these lines so it doesnt come across like you are just trying to be malicious and say you could do it better.

i would be very welcome if u can show me where i can fix my models. And it dosn’t metter to me if u will write this Gently or agresive. critiq is critiq. U can use it for better work or start saying don’t be to harsh for me, i am new? So what!? Beying new guy dosn’t make your work better.

Such Comment is good for details. But i have posted a photo just to show how the model is diffrent. I think i don’t have to write your front bumper need work, beacuse once u look on the pictrue then later on the model. I think u see this even with out eye. that somethink is wrong.

Honestly this forum is one of the cutest opinions in works. It is like even if u uploud some shit stuff, u will get comment. This is good! If we want to be taken more serious we have to start makeing our works better. And looking on this car u can’t say this car is good model. And writing only because he is new or u want to be polite is akward.

Wow, you really are a douche bag. Like it or not. Im certain he worked hard on it. Quality comes with practice. Photo realism comes with experience. If you honestly believe you wouldnt take offence if you worked really hard on something, and someone pointed out your obvious flaws that you may have struggled with and said “until you make it the way I want it, its bad,” than fine.

Im not saying his model couldnt use some work, but being mean isnt constructive, its just mean.

Cant fix stupid!

He have made some other cars… and all cars end up on that lvl. When everyone is writing yeah, this is good could be better etc. Ofc it could be better, every work can be better. But writing like that force him, yeah i am okey with that and he is not learning anythink, Somone have to say no diude, you should go back to modeling and look how diffrent your car is from the picture go and try to fix that, iif u have problem make a WIP we will help. Maybe it will take time. and after 3-4 mounths he will make one car. but that car will be good. with acctualy u can show. and someone will say yeah this is really cool.

1 good work, is better then 1000 shit works.

I was not rude. I just writed what i think and what i would do. Maybe it hurt. but better is true comment then 1000 Yeah omg i love etc. Such comments dosn’t make your next work better.

f you honestly believe you wouldnt take offence if you worked really hard on something, and someone pointed out your obvious flaws…

I don’t know if you work in studio or not. but many times is such sytuation that you worked hard on somethink like one week. and then sudenly there is decision. nah we don’t need this.

Cant say I do work in a studio, yet. Im starting school for 3D computer animation in a few months. Your right, Im not saying blow smoke, dont be a jack ass though. Any good work I give on what needs to be worked is an understood “good work, so far,” I am certain. Being aggressive doesnt do shit for learning. If you work in a studio that is one thing. In a studio they also ask for it. Its not your personal work (per say).

Car modeling takes a bit of experience. Experience he may not have. Being rude doesnt change the fact that experience will show him what teqniques work better than others. Being rude wont suddenly give him 2+ years of experience.

Look. This is not his first car. so… why he endup with the same level as the first one. Why he will not go back and try model it better.

Saying in that case that it is good / next will be better is akward, because i didn’t saw a try to make it better i didn’ remember any thread etc. that is whyy i writed go back to modeling. Try to make this car better then last one,

basicly never mind.

I would just go back to modeling because this is cool car make a wip  and everyone will help makeing it better.

You see that last sentence there, that is starting to sound better. Acknowledge that it is a WIP instead of just being mean. I agree, some of his other ones could use some work too. It just means he hasnt found what works for him. If he is using a bad technique, telling him to redo it, or make it better doesnt solve anything, cuz it will take hime 5 times as long as it would maybe you or me. Without knowing what hes doing, you cant know what process he is using, you cant say if its a bad model, or poor technique. On that note, Thats why we are here, as a comunity. If he doesnt feel he can come to any of us because he is afraid it will be brutally shot down, he may continue using a poor technique which is just as bad if not worse than blowing smoke and telling people its the best model in the world.

Well… this is quite a kerfuffle.
It’s sort the same situation as with the Maserati model I put in finished projects right before this. An old model that I wanted to call finished so it would stop bothering me and I could move on to other, better stuff. This model is almost a year old. I have improved since then I hope  I understand both of your arguments, Kramon, you wanted to help me get better, so you said I need to improve my modelling. Thanks. ThorntonStrolia, you thought that the comment wasn’t the most helpful(and I must say, I do agree) because the tone it was written in was a bit harsh, and how the modelling could be improved wasn’t quite clear. Here are my two cents on the whole matter what, when, and why to comment:

Reasons people post art:
*to show it off
*to get better/ask for help/getting critique
Why other people should comment:
*compliment/encourage
*critique/help
imo a mix of these is best. When people post art, yes they can show it off, but if they want to improve any, asking for help and critique is good. Other than practice and being taught, this is the other way people get better.
When people comment on that art and don’t ask for critique(just showing it off) if you like it, and ahead and compliment. If they are for help and critique, then if you can help them do it. There is a good way to do it though. First you should find some good in it to compliment, then politely point out the/some errors/improvements/ideas for the work, not doing it in either a condescending or harsh manner, or in the opposite manner, (words escape me at the moment). Treat them like a equal human being, talking straight to them being neither harsh or overly kind. If you have nothing good to say about it, or it is just completely bad, either just don’t comment, or politely find a way to let them know that it stinks. In these cases though, it is usually possible to give plenty of tips or links to tutorials to help them get better

People want to get better, but they can’t if they don’t know how.
