in the manual, page 169 it says i can load parts of a library
and add those parts to a file.
How do i create such a library? I tried a normal file that
contains two spheres, but when i try to load it with “Append”,
blender tells me that this is no library.
Do i need to name it in a special way? Can or can’t i use
a normal file as a library?
i think your just highlighting the file and hitting open, yeah?
you have to left click on the file and it opens like its a folder and you get options of mesh, object, material, ipo, world etc etc. you click on these and pick what you want. thats where having everything named well is a good idea.
I save a normal file.blend with some meshes in it.
In another session i hit Shift+F1 and select that file.
It opens (filename in directory part), but it seems
there is nothing in it.
If i hit “Load”, it just says “Error: Not a library”.
This probably isn’t the problem, but the “.blend1” backup files that are generated as you work have always been inaccessible to me as libraries. If I have “file.blend”, followed in my directory by the automatically generated backup “file.blend1”, I have to open the former to append anything. If I try to append from a .blend1 file, I get the “Not a Library” error too.
If you’re trying to import from the .blend; you’re doing the right thing (and I remain mystified). The .blend1 doesn’t matter; it’s just a backup for the .blend file, I believe. When I try to append from a library, the .blend files appear as white text with a yellow icon to the left, identifying them as usable libraries; the blend1’s are just gray with no icons. I’m sorry I can’t be more help; that was the only idea I had.
