light halo effects

ok, now i’m stuck:

trying to achieve an effect, where a halo spotlight shines through the transparent parts of an alpha-mapped plane. i know this works fine if what i have alpha mapped now is just a hole in the geometry, but does it also work with alpha maps?? the symbol that should leave the halo effect pass through is just too complex, so building geometry is not an option.

any tips greatly appreciated


so, some research showed that what i want can’t be done in blender right now. so i went for what i considered not being an option - building the geometry (the hand-drawn taurus logo for the world stunt awards).

problem solved, and it looks exactly the way i wanted it to be :slight_smile:
