Lightflow?

taking a closer look at that MATSpider program, it looks to me like you would not need to edit the output files. If you can assign MATSpider materials to Blender objects the same way you can assign Blender materials to Blender objects, it looks like the script is basically good to go…minus the scan-line rendering preview, which isn’t too bad of a loss considering Lightflow has a few preview render options that result in fast renders.

MMM, I am looking forward to a release of this script.

Wow! Those renders look amazing. I am also trying to make this Lighflow export to work, but i cant seem to figure it out.
There is an error on the blender DOS window
PYTHON SCRIPT ERROR:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File “LFexport.py.001”, line 8, in ?
ImportError: No module named os

I have
Blender 2.23
Win XP Pro
Python 1.5.2
Lightflow Rendering Tools Python Module 1.5

I think i sort of messed up on the Lightflow environment variables on Win XP. Can anyone here using Win XP that uses lightflow tell me how to set up the environment variables? Please! Thanks!!

One of the long time ideas was to allow blender to render with multiple applications and combine the images using postproduction processes,
like this sphere is rendered with lightflow, masked into this seen, with
a halo produced in blender, being reflected by this floor in BMRT,
composited to this image, runned through this GIMP plugin, out to this image… Hopefully people will be able to apply as much procedural stuff to their renders as they normally do laborously by hand.

What you are suggesting would require a lot of cross integration that would be very difficult to do.

Then again, you can do some of that already, but you would have to do the combinations by hand, and the reflections and such would not carry over.

I actually have a question about lightflow.
I’ve heard a lot of stuff that there would be a lfrt2. Is that true, and how comes I have never read anything about it before?

Jacopo has indicated to me that he is working on a completely new renderer (from scratch). However, he is, after all, doing it in his free time, and thus he has no obligation to have it finished by a particular time. In fact, if he wanted to, he could always trash the project (though I don’t think that he’s the kind of person to do that).

(BTW: he started work on Lightflow when he was in highschool… it took him a long time to get it to where it is now. So don’t expect to hear much about his new renderer for quite a while.)

understood. Completely. He’s a brilliant coder though - as evidenced by the insane array of capabilities and quality level (not to mention speed!) demonstrated by LF 2.0 {linux, the win vursion is slo-o-o} I can understand that that sort of person would have trouble for intellectual and emotional reasons with GPLing or releasing his code.

Perhaps he has something to say about blender. Maybe he’d be willing to help?

I have a question so I reactivate this (quite old) thread. The script that Eeshlo writes is a Blender -> Lightflow Rendering Tools export script right?
I’ve seen that Lightflow is readied to be embedded (as a plugin I suppose) in other 3d soft. It would mean something like a new button beside “Display Buttons” (F11: Damn F…g Incredible Render Buttons). Would it be possible to do it for Blender?
Yes? No? Already done?

Eeshlo new-in-beta-test-script is like that 8)

man that’s gonna rock!!

is there an estimate as to when that script is going to be not in beta?

that looks pretty cool.

I think lightflow is going to die. Someone must hunt down Japoco Pantaleoni. we must free the sources of this wonderful renderer and assimilate it. mmm. sources.

good idea, the lf sources would definately serve the blender community.

I think the last I’ve heard from him, that he was working for nVidia in Nevada? Time to dust of the archives known as http://groups.yahoo.com/groups/lightflow

iptic’s dead, please upload it somewhere else! :frowning:
