Lighting challenges at CGtalk

Looking good. I saw your work over at CGtalk.

You have to diffuse the light that hits your objects surface a bit. You do this by adding Clouds texture set at noisesize-1900 or so and depth at 6. Set this up as "ref"in “Mapto”. Mess with the values. Also set some objects on a layer with lights set to diffuse with the spec off.

Also start lighting your scene form total darkness. Turn off your “World” light and tune it up as you work.

I want to try out some AO scenes without any lights. Maybe some HDRI only light stuff also.

I like your use of Blenders sequence plugins. I have to try that out on this piece. I have been dumping the image render out to Gimp for compositing.

I’m thinking about adding the SSS script for the grapes, plums and leaf. Maybe the plate could use some if I make it ceramic. A raku style would fit the organics of the fruit. Who knows.

i use the halo feat quite often but very rarely textures, i should indeed test that.

out of the 4 lamps in 2nd scene, 2 are specless. i tend to prefer using uniform lighting on all objects (i come from photography), just correcting with layer negatives lamps if needed (none here)

Of course, althought if no AO on both mode i use a fairly low ambient. AO only is interesting as diffuse base, but i use it mostly on substract only mode.

Anyone know why the bananas aren’t being lit here? One radiosity emitting plane is all that is in the scene right now. All normals are proper as well.

There are no materials, it was done completely with colored lights by moving objects to separate layers. I can’t figure out why there is so much aliasing to the right of the orange and on the grapes.
