I am having a tough time with lighting the hair. I would like to get the lighting like the mice image on the gallery. no matter how hard I try (about 20 renderings) can’t get it. Can someone help?

Soft buffer spotlights, methinks.
four-point rig with a strong backlight. see manual/lighting rigs and the tutorial on the tuts page under lighting. Good hair needs a backlight to bring out the translucency and glow of the fibers. A good key light brings out the sheen and highlights, while the side fills give luster and body. At tleast in real life. and i guess in blender too if it is modeled right.
Those suggestions helped alot. Just a little more practice with particles. Now if I can just get my hands on the new combing particles I’ll be in business

You can’t comb the particles in 2.43, you’ll need a CVS build with the patch in it. Check graphical for a build.
