lights animation question

I have an animation question. I’ve animated meshes and the movement of objects, and done little bone animation.

One thing I don’t understand is how to animate the turning on of lights, or animating special features of things.

Let me give you an example. Say I wanted to animate a Simon game. You remember Simon, with the four colored buttons.

The animation would be simple, just light up, or increase the emit number for the texture color. Can I key frame that kind of thing? What about flashing lamps. If I wanted to create a strobe, light effect, where a halo light beam will flicker on an off. Can I keyframe the energy of the light?

thanks for any input.

Yes you can keyframe materials/colors and lights – just put the cursor in the appropriate button window and press “i”
