Lines showing on smooth hard surface cone

Hey all.

I am making a speaker and the membrane cone keeps showing topology lines. They disappear if I use subsurf, but I don’t think I should be using it on hard surfaces - along with the fact it throws textures out of place.

The mesh has edge split modifier and is smooth-shaded .

did u try to do the shape with more squarish quads ?
might help get a better shading smooth

try to redo the cone using the Spin tool to give it a better topo
and use higher res like 64 or 128 segments and see how it renders

I added a new HDRI and 2 sun lamps and did a low res render
render is not bad don’t see the lines

it does not look bad !
