Hi. I am linking a collection with the origin at the bottom of the mesh in the source file. However, when I bring the collection to the new scene as a link, the origin is in a different place. Do you know how to maintain the origin position?
Appending works fine; linking does not.
Thank you
Not sure what origin are you talking about…
Does the origin of the model itself, inside the collection, shift after linking, or does the whole collection shifts?
edit: Ah… did you ‘apply’ all translation etc. to 000 for the mesh? Just a thought.
When I link this to my new scene, the origin isn’t at the bottom. I’m not sure why Blender has these tricky linkways. Shouldn’t it be easier to make the thing you link with the origin at the same position as the original mesh without workarounds?
Well… Normally it would?
Like I said, try to apply the translation for the mesh to 000, and see what happens for the linked collection instance.
Great extensions for ‘flip-flopping’ between scenes with linked files are these two:
Open Linked — Blender Extensions
Edit Linked Library — Blender Extensions <-preferred one tbh…
Also, you can shift the origin of a collection. But for the linked one, you have to put in into a Collection existent in the scene.

Otherwise, upload the files (or ones that also shows this) so we can have a look?
I applied it, but there were no changes. I understand I need to wrap the instance into a collection, but then I will need to instance the collection with the instance inside if I have more than one mesh.
I just wonder why append works and link doesn’t.
No more ideas here atm.
Can you share the files? Could be PM if you feel uncomfortable posting it on the Wide Web…
It is a paid mesh from CGtrader, I am sure I can not share it. Maybe I should try to do a place holder?
Sure, that will probably work too, as long as it’s the same scale, position etc.
