I want to use blender to create normal maps to apply to 2d sprites to give them a 3D look.
So what I want to do is create the base mesh (which will be completely 2D) then use muti-res modifier to add 3D details.
And then afterwards back the normals for use with the sprite.
My problems is that I need the vertices along the mesh outline stay exactly where they are.
Is there some way to select vertices on the base mesh and lock them in place so that they cannot be moved when sculpting?
I see two options:
The first is to lock the X and Y axis, so that when you sculpt, you will only be moving verts up and down, and this will leave the border intact on the XY axis. But, if you also need the borders intact on the Z axis then you may need to use…
The masking brush. This brush hides all vertices from the sculpting brushes where you specify.
Hope this helps!
Thanks, the mask brush seems to be what I want but unfortunately I am on 2.61 and cannot download at the moment, so I cannot test it out now.
