Logo Animation - Empties controling multiple instances of the same mesh ?


Have you seen the “mexico startup” logo animation created by Thinking Rabbit on Blendernation ?
I like it so much that I would love to create something similar.

I’m struggulling to reproduce the “S” animation. From their screen captures, I see that they’ve used empties to rig the animation of the different parts composing the final S, but It also seems that there is only one single part (mesh) which is used by the 50 empties to create the final S, and no matter what I try, I can’t manage to reproduce something similar. Does someone understand how this was done ? Could you help me become clever ? :eyebrowlift2:
