I currently have a Geforce 260 and run Blender 2.5 without issues, but will be building a new system soon, wife gets the system with the 260.
Id like to get Quadro but Im still very new to Blender and want to wait till I realy need the Quadro. What Geforce would yall go with? Id like something on par with the 260, but Ive head the Fermi’s have trouble with Blender, Im guessing drivers.
Im currently looking at the Geforce 450, 460, 560 or 570.
First check how well your 260 performs. Here’s the benchmark file, you’ll need 2.49 to test it. Then go to this thread and compare your results with what other people got with their cards. In addition, try to figure out whether you really need a system upgrade, depending on what you do in Blender, other 3d apps and how your computer performs in general. And if you decide you really need/want a new computer, perhaps a Radeon might we worth checking. Granted, people used to report a lot of issues with ATI cards and OpenGL in the past, but these threads kind of stopped popping up in the last year or so. Can’t say what the situation is with Radeons now, but they are tempting as an alternative to Nvidia’s fermi problems.
A short summary: if you don’t really really need to, don’t buy a quadro card.
