Looking for a web host.

I’m currently looking for a web hosting place where I can get my own domain name and start with the basic plan and move up to bigger plan once I fill my site out with more pics and what not.

I’ll be planning to digitize my family pictures and practice photo editing on the whole lot so I’ve figured that it would be a good idea for me to get my own domain and set up an online album for all of my family members to check it out. This will also allow me to show other family members my graphic skills as I improve on it.

I don’t intend to use codes other than CSS, HTML, and maybe a tiny bit of javascript until much later on when I might have time to learn how to code SQL and similar languages. The hosting site have to be able to let me code the site myself rather than have to work with the site builder some host have. It also have to be able to let me link to my pics saved on the server with the site (having issue with linking to pics on server with freehostia)

If I can figure out what wrong with the pic linking itself, would i be better if I just stay with freehostia and register my domain with them? the Control Panel is a bit confusing but the price is pretty good. however the low price make me feel like I’m missing some bad feature or something I need to know beforehand. Could somebody check it out and see if I’m indeed missing something? If everything checks out, I wouldn’t mind getting the advanced package.

Here is the problem, I’m generally lousy when it comes to trying and find a good product. for example, I’ve been curious about 1and1 pricing and plan so when I looked around for review, I’ve seen too many negative comments against the 1and1 company. So I hopes some of you have an idea for me to check out :slight_smile:

I use dreamhost and they’ve always been reliable. They’re pretty cheap, too, for what they offer.

I use 1and1.com I got the second plan (i forget the name though) I think its 3.99 a month. I have never had any downtime and neither has faramix (which is on 1and1 business).

I’m all about the DreamHost too. The main thing that sets them apart is that when something goes wrong or is about to go offline, they let you know. I was referred by my boss in the I.T. department, who is a brilliant guy, so I believed him.

One time they billed me, and everybody else prematurely, but they appologized on their blog and gave me a refund, so it’s cool.

110MB is nice… been using it for a short while and I’ve no complaints (the free plan is nice).

By the way, what exactly is the problem with your FreeHostia site? Is it that you can upload images to the server, but not link to them from the site itself?

Don’t go for free host…they are unreliable… also they will put ads on your site.
