I’m fairly new to Blender and currently focusing on 3D modeling in Blender 4.3. I’m in the process of gathering resources and was hoping to tap into the collective wisdom here. Does anyone have a list of their favorite and most useful keyboard shortcuts for beginners?
I’d love to compile a handy reference that I can print out and keep by my side while I’m working. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
These are my common shortcuts while modeling (maybe i’m missing one or two): S - scale G - move/grab R - rotate E - extrude F - create M - join Ctrl+B - bevel edge Ctrl+Shift+B - bevel vertex Ctrl+Click - extrude to mouse position V - split Ctrl+R - loop cut X - delete
I dont believe there can be “shortcuts for beginners”. Basically, as a beginner itsprobably would be better to stick to default one, since 99% of tutorials will use default one.
Despite this, im personally doesnt recomment to anyone use blender/blender 2.7 keymaps, since G, R, S for interacting with objects are “blender thing”. If in the future you will wanted to switch to different DCC, or expand your app suite with something else - there will be a gizmo, not the “GRS” things. For 99% of the cases.
The way how you interact with objects or their components like edges and polygons, for most people becomes their “second nature” and people bound to it pretty closely. Switching from 3ds max to maya or c4d - is not a problem, because they use gizmo. Using unreal engine or unity paired with 3ds max, maya or c4d - is not a problem because they also use gizmo.
Switching from blender “grs” - would be a problem with any other DCC.
So using this is only a building a blender bubble around you and the whole world of other app which you might want to learn in the future.
@Okidoki the cheat sheets and keyboard are awesome! I’m brand new to this. I’m currently pursuing blender as a hobby…hopefully that changes one day…I already love it. I really appreciate everything you shared with me!!
Best to you!
