Loop cut on one face?

I can’t find out how you can place a loop cut on one face of a rectangle, is this possible and how can I do it, thanks.

Loopcuts won’t run through hidden faces, so select your face, invert selection, hide (H), loopcut, then unhide (Alt+H). You can also use the knife (K, or the knife tool) to cut edges arbitrarily.
