thats playing off a harry potter thing right? where in the maze they shoot off the sparks if they need help
Well not intentionally; I started with wanting to create something with a maze, then thought about a maze in the form of the word lost and then the flare was my way of visualising the feeling of being lost.
That said I have seen the films so I can probably add them to one of my influences!
Thank you for your comment,

hey, that’s a really nice render!
Is it blender internal? did you make the whole maze by hand or where it made by a script? how did you make the smoke?
Keep up the good work!
I so love that show
I like what I saw, takes a bit of work to make a maze in the shape of the world ‘Lost’
Speaking of that and mazes, I remember we had an old 3D DOS game called Get Lost and it had mazes where you needed to do things like get to the exit or change all 4 squares ect…
Really good concept and really good volumetric smoke where its lit.
Thank you all for your comments.
Answers to questions in no particular order:
Yes it was a blender internal render, with a unsharp mask in Photoshop.
The maze was created with a script from this site: http://jmsoler.free.fr/util/blenderfile/labyrinthe/maze_generator.htm
I then had to place the letters so that they contained the route and then added extra areas of the maze to fill the O and T by hand. Once that was done I had to make the outside faces and give the wall some depth.
For the smoke, I followed a fantastic tutorial on this site: http://cogfilms.com/tutorials.html
For the flare smoke I make 2 particle systems and increased the halo size to create the kind of smoke that you see after fireworks. For the flare smoke trail I reduced the size of the halo and added a Z Accel.
The flare itself is just a cube and the light source is a Spotlight embedded in te smoke particls to give the transition between red and black.
I think that is everything, again, thank you all for your comments.
